4 Baskets of Cheer
$25/1 ticket $100/5 tickets
This "Basket of Cheer" drawing benefits Irish American Archives Society, a non-profit organization that focuses on the history of the Irish in Cleveland. Your generous support will enable IAAS to continue its work in 2021 by sponsoring a podcast, talks, displays, and an informative website and newsletter.

The raffle prizes are 4 "baskets of cheer"--filled with spirits, glassware, and Irish biscuits and other treats.  Each one revolves around a different "spirit"--whiskey, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic.  The holder of the first ticket pulled will choose the first prize, second ticket pulled next prize, and so on.  A "wild card" basket will be added the day of the event.  The raffle will be conducted entirely online, and the winning tickets will be pulled the afternoon of the "virtual" IAAS fundraiser on Sunday, February 28.  You don't have to be present to win, but we can only accommodate raffle winners in the Cleveland area.

Raffle ticket purchases are permitted until 3:30 pm on February 28, and the winning tickets will be pulled by approximately 4 pm the same day.  Four winning tickets will be pulled that day, and the winners will be contacted in order the same day so that each winner can make a basket choice in turn.  A "wild card" basket will be added the day of the event.

The Prizes

  • Whiskey Basket

The raffle prizes are 4 "baskets of cheer"--filled with spirits, glassware, and Irish biscuits and other treats.  Special thanks to Tom Scanlon and Casey's Irish Imports! The whiskey basket features the following:

REDBREAST SMALL-BATCH IRISH WHISKEY:  This limited-edition, cask-strength batch of whiskey is made in Cork from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and then triple distilled in copper pot stills. Matured in American oak casts and Spanish sherry butts and re-casked into Oloroso sherry butts, this whiskey’s signature “sherried” style has notes of vanilla, dried fruits, and wood spices.  It will be sold out in stores by the time our raffle winners are picked.

JAMESON TRIPLE-DISTILLED IRISH WHISKEY:  Since 1780, Jameson Irish Whiskey has been made by blending rich pot still whiskey made from both malted and unmalted barley, with the finest grain whiskey, both distilled 3 times for smoothness. Blending the best of pot still and fine grain whiskeys,  triple-distilling, aging in oak casks for a minimum of four years--these are the "ingredients" for the signature smoothness of Jameson's Whiskey.

PROPER NO. TWELVE™ IRISH WHISKEY:  This whiskey is a triple-distilled blend of fine grain and single malt that is bourbon-barrel-aged for 4 years. Smooth, with notes of vanilla, honey and toasted wood, this friendly, straightforward spirit can be enjoyed on ice or in a cocktail--like a Proper Mule. It pays tribute to founder, boxer Conor McGregor, his neighborhood of Crumlin, Dublin 12, and their spirit of brotherhood, loyalty, and hard work. We offer it in honor of Cleveland boxer Johnny Kilbane.

CLEVELAND BLACK RESERVE BOURBON WHISKEY:  Cleveland Whiskey operates an award-winning craft distillery on Stones Levee in the East Flats.  Cleveland Whiskey fuses tradition and technology to create bourbon by using new American oak charred barrels in a proprietary process called Pressure-Aging®. This process opens and closes the pores of charred oak to speed the aging and produces a rich, flavorful, full-bodied bourbon.

  • Wine Basket

The raffle prizes are 4 "baskets of cheer"--filled with spirits, glassware, and Irish biscuits and other treats.  Special thanks to Bridget Barrett and Casey's Irish Imports!  The wine basket features the following:

CAYMUS VINEYARDS CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2019:  Caymus has a signature style that is dark in color, with rich fruit and ripe, velvety tannins – as approachable in youth as in maturity. With deep roots in the Napa Valley since 1857, the Wagner family farms Cabernet grapes in eight of Napa’s 16 sub-appellations, allowing for the best possible wine in a given year.  Innovative yet down-to-earth, the Caymus Cabernet offers layered, lush aromas and flavors, including cocoa, cassis, and ripe dark berries.

CHATEAU CHASSE-SPLEEN MOULIS EN MEDOC 2002: Château Chasse-Spleen is a winery in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation of the Bordeaux region of France.  This red wine from Moulis is blended from a variety of grapes: petit verdot, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. The 2002 Château Chasse Spleen is the ideal dark red to combine with birds and gouda cheese. It has aromas of red and black fruits, with oaky and earthy notes.

SANTA MARGHERITA PINOT GRIGIO 2019:  Santa Margherita was among the first Italian wineries to make Pinot Grigio as a single-grape variety, and off the copper-colored skins; thereby enhancing the freshness of the fruit and bringing out the wine’s enormous versatility. The wine is dry with intense aromas and appealing flavors of Golden Delicious apples and citrus with a long, multi-layered finish. Excellent as an aperitif and with a medium body that makes for diverse pairings.

CEDAR-LEE CHARDONNAY:  CLE Urban Winery brings the concept of a working winery and tasting room to the historic urban setting of the Cedar-Lee neighborhood of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. The wines are hand-crafted and bottled on-site in a craft brewery-style winery and are made from premium juice sourced primarily from the US west coast.  A crisp, complex unoaked Chardonnay, with balanced acidity, velvety mouth feel and flavors and aromas of green apple and pear, honors a lively community.

  • Beer Basket

The raffle prizes are 4 "baskets of cheer"--filled with spirits, glassware, and Irish biscuits and other treats.  Special thanks to Cindy Barber and Casey's Irish Imports.  The beer basket features the following:

CONWAY’S IRISH ALE:  Great Lakes Brewing Company developed an Irish ale with full-bodied caramel malt flavor in honor of co-owner’s grandfather and policeman. The flavor is stationed at the intersection of sweet and toasty, where biscuit and caramel malt flavors always have the right-of-way. Add it to a favorite recipe; this beer is a perfect cooking companion. Its key ingredient--a 2-Row Base Malt, so called due to the formation of corns on the barley stalk-- contributes a soft, smooth character.

SIBLING REVELRY BREWING RED:  An American red ale brewed in the Irish tradition with UK malts provides a light, toasted caramel profile. It’s finished with American hops for a fresh, moderately citrus aroma.  Sibling Revelry Brewing was founded by a family of brothers and cousins from Cleveland who wanted to share their passion for great beer. Sibling’s Revelry taproom in Westlake offers year-round brews, seasonal varieties, limited releases, and taproom exclusives.

HOPE FLOWS KOLSCH: This light bodied ale is slightly fruity, crisp and clean with a dry finish. Collision Bend Brewing Company is an artisanal brewery and restaurant located on the banks of the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland’s Flats District.  The brewery is housed on Old River Road—in an area frequented by generations of Irish laborers and in a building where Civil-War era-merchant ships stockpiled supplies before setting sail onto the Great Lakes. Sales help support cancer patients at the Cleveland Clinic.

LIGHTS OUT LAGER:  This dry-hopped lager was created in a unique partnership with the Jolly Scholar Brewery and the Baenum hop farm. Proceeds from Lights On Lager sales will raise funds for Cleveland’s four leading independent music venues: the Beachland, Grog Shop, Happy Dog and Mahall’s. Lights On Lager comes in 4 packs of 16 oz. cans with each 4 pack featuring a can with custom artwork designed by each of the venues.

  • Tea and Juice Basket

The raffle prizes are 4 "baskets of cheer"--filled with spirits, glassware, and Irish biscuits and other treats.  Special thanks to Casey's Irish Imports! The tea and juice basket features the following:

RIBENA BLACKCURRANT JUICE:  Made from blackcurrants grown on small farms across Britain and Ireland, Ribena has been a family favorite since it was launched in 1938.  Because blackcurrants have a high vitamin C content, free Ribena was given to children during the second world war when fruit such as oranges became hard to get. Don’t tell anyone, but I’ve heard that a “shotful of Ribena makes the Guinness go down in a most delightful way!”

SANPELLEGRINO ARRANCIATA:  This Italian sparkling orange drink has been made since 1932 with quality selected ingredients from the Mediterranean area, expertly combined for a perfectly balanced taste.  Delicate on the nose with notes of juicy Italian orange, Sanpellegrino Aranciata has a medium sweetness that is balanced with subtle bitter notes of orange and carried through to a caramelized orange finish, creating a truly unique taste that dances in the mouth.

BARRY’S IRISH BREAKFAST TEA:  Blended for the Irish Palate, Barry’s Irish Breakfast Tea has a brisk refreshing taste, and a bright golden color. Barry’s lightest and most refreshing signature blend, the Irish Breakfast Tea has been expertly blended in Ireland since 1901. Known for its brisk and lively taste, we select our Irish breakfast tea blend from the Assam valley of India and the gardens of Rwanda and Kenya. The bright freshness of the best African leaves makes this tea so refreshing.

BEWLEY'S IRISH BREAKFAST TEA:  This is an invigorating blend of high grown Assam and Darjeeling teas. Harvested in India, its strong flavor is best complemented by the addition of milk.  Each Box Contains 80 Teabags.  Founded in 1840, Bewley’s has been perfecting the craft of tea and coffee making for many generations, from humble beginnings in a little shop on Sycamore Alley in Dublin, Ireland to present day operations across the globe in Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
